Daraa | Ex-commander killed in regime bombardment on residential neighborhoods

Daraa province: SOHR activists have reported that “Muhammed Helal Zatema” was killed in mortar fire by the regime forces on Tariq al-Sadd neighborhood.

 

“Zatema” was known for his bold and opposition to the Syrian regime, where he had appeared in a video footage, shouting at a regime colonel saying “ where is your leader?“.

 

“Zatema” was a leader in the opposition al-Tawheed Brigade, before he struck a settlement in Daraa in 2018 and gave up armed operations.

 

SOHR activists have just reported that the negotiations in Daraa were facing obstacles for the sixth day in a raw, since the beginning of the implementation of the Russian roadmap, where the Central Committees in Daraa met with the Security Committee, under Russian supervision, but no consensus reached.

 

On the other hand, SOHR activists documented regime attacks on the residential neighbourhoods in Daraa al-Balad with tanks, mortars and heavy machineguns, along with clashes erupted at night between local armed fighters and the regime forces in the outskirts of the besieged neighborhoods.

 

Similarly, regime forces shelled, with artillery shells, the road between al -Yadoudah and Tafas near the area of Scientific Research Centre.

 

On Aug 18, SOHR activists reported that residents in villages and towns across Daraa province, including Jasim, Heit, Tafas and al-Mezeyrib, staged demonstrations, rejecting the terms of the Russian roadmap’s terms.

 

The demonstrators chanted anti-regime slogans, expressing their discontent over the siege imposed on Daraa al-Balad for over 50 days.

 

Daraa city is currently struggling with alarming humanitarian situation, amid shortage of bread, food supplies, drinking water, medicine and fuel. Meanwhile, al-Saraya crossing is still closed till today.
