Growing tension | Unknown gunmen attack security checkpoint and kidnap two regime soldiers in eastern al-Suwaidaa
Local gunmen kill young man of al-Suwaidaa tribes and mutilate his body
Al-Suwaidaa province: SOHR activists have reported that an armed group attacked a regime checkpoint in Um Dabeeb town north-eastern al-Suwaidaa where clashes with machineguns erupted with the members of the checkpoint. The attackers managed to kidnap two members of the State Security Branch, while one of the attackers was injured.
Local sources have reported that the gunmen are relatives of a ringleader of kidnappers in al-Suwaidaa, who was arrested and taken to a prison in Damascus a few days ago, after being injured.
SOHR sources have suggested that the kidnapping of the State Security members was an attempt by the kidnappers to swap them with their boss.
Separately, residents of al-Mazraa town in the countryside of al-Suwaidaa found the body of a young man hanged on the cannon muzzle in the town this morning.
This incident came in light of the clashes that took place, last night, between tribal gunmen and other gunmen of the “Syrian Liwaa Party” which was formed, two months ago, by residents of the region with the aim to providing security in the town.
According to sources, members of the “Syrian Liwaa Party” stationed on a makeshift checkpoint clashed with young men of the region’s tribes traveling in a “Tussan” car, who refused to stop at the checkpoint for fear of kidnapping operations that become prevalent in the recent time. The members of the checkpoint chased the young men near al-Madjana area, as they were escaping towards al-Mazra’a town. Exchange of fire took place between the two sides, which resulting in the death of one of the two young men, while the other one managed to escape.
Members of the checkpoint dragged the dead body and hung it on the cannon muzzle in the center of the town, and fired bullets in the air, “celebrating” killing of the young man.
It is worth noting that tension is growing in al-Mazraa town between the tribes, which the victim belonging to, and members of the “Syrian Liwaa Party”.
