Detained for over 75 days | Fate of the representative of the Autonomous Administration of northern and eastern Syria in Erbil still unknown

Representation of the Autonomous Administration holds authorities in Erbil responsible for the safety of Jihad Hassan

The representative of the Autonomous Administration of northern and eastern Syria, Jihad Hassan, has been still detained in Erbil by the authorities of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, amid reports of his poor health condition.

The authorities of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq had arrested Jihad Hassan on June 10, 2021, with two members of the Relations Committee of the Democratic Union Party (PYD), when they were heading to Erbil airport. The two members of the PYD Relations Committee were released on July 29, 50 days after their arrest, while Mr. Jihad has been still detained for the 76th consecutive day for unknown reasons so far.

On August 2, representatives of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria announced that they received accurate information about the deterioration of the health of the representative of the Autonomous Administration in Erbil, and they held PYD fully responsible for the safety of Jihad Hassan.

The arrest of politicians and diplomats without any clear excuse or guilt violates all international diplomatic rules, and if they are arrested, the parties to whom they belong should be inform, so that they can be repatriated or replaced.
