Prior to popular protest in Aleppo countryside | Turkish electricity company stop service in Jerbulus
Aleppo province: Private Turkish Electricity Firm has decided to stop feeding electricity service in Jerbulus city in the countryside of Alab as of August 28.
The company’s move came amid popular protest against the Turkish company in Euphrates Shield area in the countryside of north and east Aleppo countryside due to the rising prices and the weak electricity network for nearly 4o hertz which cause break down of the electric appliances and has caused big losses amid hiking prices of electrics.
The populations considered the company’s new decision was a message to forces them to accept its unfair decisions in some areas under its control.
The people fear that electricity cut could happen in cities if al-Bab, Mara’a and E’zaz and the other areas that protests against the company which will cause large losses in their work and living conditions given that areas have been depending highly on the Turkish electricity.
On August 25, SOHR sources say that residents demonstrated in areas under the control of Turkish forces and Turkish-backed factions for the third consecutive day, protesting the frequent power outages and the increase in the price of electricity by the Turkish energy company in the region. According to SOHR sources, tens of civilians demonstrated in front of the headquarters of the Local Council in al-Bab city in Aleppo countryside, denouncing the poor service of electricity following a blackout in the for nearly 48 hours.
On August 24, SOHR sources reported that the residents of al-Bab city in the eastern countryside of Aleppo staged a demonstration in front of the Turkish energy company, protesting the frequent blackout in the city and the company’s failure to secure the needed amount of electricity.
The demonstrators blocked the road to the company and chanted slogans against eh company’s director, including “Curse your Soul, director. You are a thief”.
Meanwhile, the director managed to run away, leaving the employees facing the protestors by themselves.
A day earlier, SOHR activists reported that a mass demonstration took place in front of a private Turkish energy company in Azaz city in the northern countryside of Aleppo, as the demonstrators protested the frequent blackout in the city. It is worth noting that power outages continue for five to six hours every day since the beginning of this summer.
The demonstrators lifted placards with slogans written on them which read ”No right lost if you insist on demanding it”. The demonstrators also accused the Turkish company of embezzling the people’s money instead of providing services. Furthermore, the protestors chanted slogans describing the officials of the energy company as “Thieves” and demanded them get out of the city and hold the Local Council accountable.
Nearly two months earlier, a delegation of representatives of the residents met with the administration of the energy company and demanded the decrease of the price of a Kilowatt per hour and to overcome the problem of power outages.
The delegation was promised to decrease the price of a Kilowatt per hour to 73.5 Turkish Paisters. However, these promises remained unfulfiled, and the company’s officials justified that the price of electricity was out of their control.
