Security chaos in south Syria | Police officer found dead in al-Suwaidaa city

Al-Suwaidaa province: SOHR sources have reported that a police officer volunteering in the regime Internal Security Forces was found dead with his gun laying next to his body near the military police roundabout in al-Suwaidaa city. However, it is not known if the police officer was killed or committed suicide.

On August 20, SOHR sources reported that an armed group attacked a regime checkpoint in Um Dabeeb town north-eastern al-Suwaidaa where clashes with machineguns erupted with the members of the checkpoint. The attackers managed to kidnap two members of the State Security Branch, while one of the attackers was injured. Local sources reported that the gunmen were relatives of a ringleader of kidnappers in al-Suwaidaa, who had been arrested and taken to a prison in Damascus a few days earlier, after being injured. SOHR sources suggested that the kidnapping of the State Security members was an attempt by the kidnappers to swap them with their boss.
