NE Syria | Autonomous Administration modifies mandatory conscription law

The Autonomous Administration in northern and north-eastern Syria has issued a new decision regarding mandatory conscription in the ranks of the Self-Defence Forces, exempting youth born between 1990 and 1997 from military service. The statement issued by the Co-chairmanship of the Defence Office of the Autonomous Administration in northern and north-eastern Syria, of which the Syrian Observatory obtained a copy, included the following:

 

1- Young men born between 1990 and 1997 are exempted from service in the ranks of the Self-Defence Forces.

 

2- Young men aged 18 for those born in 1998 onward are liable for mandatory conscription.

 

3- Individuals who have been already serving in the military and young people who passed their date of joining the mandatory service to Syria Democratic Forces (SDF) and Internal Security Forces (Asayish) are not included under this decision.
