ISIS resurgence | Regime forces and 5th Corps escorted by Russian fighter launch security operation in Syrian desert

Regime forces and its affiliated 5th Corps have launched new combing operation in the Syrian desert amid the continuous escalating activities of ISIS. In the early hours of Tuesday, military reinforcement composed of dozens of tanks escorted by Russian fighters have started the operation.

The Warplanes have raided caves and hotbeds of ISIS cells. The operation came few hours after the regime forces and its proxies has been attacked by ISIS in al-Soukhna town in eastern Homs countryside that wounded 15 members of the regime forces and their proxies.

Earlier, ISIS cell operations continued in different areas in the Syrian desert that targeted posts, checkpoints and regime forces weapons despite the daily intensive attack by the Russian warplanes that target the hotbeds, caves and frontlines of ISIS in deep parts of the desert.

SOHR activists reported in the past few hours in al-Soukhna desert in east Homs countryside near the administrative borders with Deir Ezzor province which led to clashes between the regime forces and its proxies on one hand the ISIS fighters on the other. The attacks killed six regime forces-backed militia members. Other eight members sustained server wounds during the attack and number of deaths might rise.

Since 24th of March 2019, SOHR has documented the killing of at least 1,545 regime soldiers and loyalists of Syrian and non-Syrian nationalities, including at least two Russians, and 153 Iranian-backed militiamen of non-Syrian nationalities. All were killed in attacks, bombings and ambushes by the “Islamic State”, west of Euphrates in the deserts of Deir Ezzor, al-Raqqah, Homs, al-Suwaidaa, Hama and Aleppo.

Also, four civilians working in gas fields, tens of shepherds and other civilians were killed and documented by SOHR in the same period, from late March 2019 until today. They were killed in attacks by ISIS cells. While 1,044 ISIS members were also killed in attacks and bombardment in the same period.
