After Abu Amsha’s declaration of his readiness to emerge with HTS | Battalions split from Suleiman Shah Division

The commander of Suleiman Shah Division Mohammed al-Jasim, aka “Abu Amsha”, has stated that he was ready to reach an understanding with Hayyaat Tahrir al-Sham regarding fighting against the Syrian regime, and that his division is ready to fight alongside the jihadi group, but under the banner of the National Army and its command. Abu Amsha’s statements have ignited broad anger among military formations and groups operating under the banner of Suleiman Shah Division.

In this context, “al-Mu’taz Bellah” Battalion operating under the banner of Suleiman Shah Division has issued a statement, confirming its split from the Turkish-backed faction which has turned a blind eye to HTS dark past. The statement, of which the Syrian Observatory obtained a copy, read “statements issued by the commander of Sultan Suleiman Shah Division Mohammed al-Jasim regarding improvement of relations with Hayyaat Tahrir al-Sham which is internationally-labelled as a terrorist organization have shocked and depressed us. Abu Amsha expressed his readiness to reach an understanding with HTS and fight alongside it, ignoring its criminality against us when we were in Hama countryside where our group was formed. In light of the statements issued by the Division’s commander without consulting the command staff, we announce the following:

  • The split of “al-Mu’taz Bellah” Battalion, headed by Abu Zaid Qastoun, from Suleiman Shah Division.

  • Working independently and fight alongside the National Army’s factions only.”
