Nearly 70 airstrikes in one day | Russian jets target ISIS strongholds in the Syrian Desert
SOHR activists have reported that Russian fighter jets carried out over 70 airstrikes on the Syrian desert since the early hours of Monday morning, targeting ISIS posts and strongholds in al-Rasafa desert in al-Raqqah countryside, Jabal al-Bishri in the west of Deir Ezzor and al-Sukhna desert in the eastern countryside of Homs.
On September 11, SOHR activists reported that five Russian jets consecutively targeted al-Rasafa desert, south-west al-Raqqa with several airstrikes, raising number of Russian raids on that day to 74. Most of the airstrikes hit al-Rasafa desert in al-Raqqah and Atheria desert in Hama countryside.
This development coincided with the deployment of Russian-backed militias in al-Shawla and Kabajeb deserts in Deir Ezzor in order to secure the roads against ISIS attacks.
