Over tribal disagreement | Tribesmen attack municipality in east al-Raqqah countryside, leaving many dead and wounded

Al-Raqqah province: SOHR sources have reported that several tribesmen attacked the headquarters of al-Hemayrat Municipality in the eastern countryside of al-Raqqah, killing a worker in the municipality and injuring others.

According to SOHR sources, the attack followed a dispute between two tribes in the region. After the attack, Syria Democratic Forces amassed their patrols in the region and were put on high alert. However, the reasons behind this dispute remained unknown.

On September 17, Observatory actives said that a civilian shot another civilian dead in Rumaylah neighbourhood in al-Raqqah city, retaliating the killing of his brother who was shot dead in al-Mabrukah village in Ras al-Ain countryside for unknown reasons.

According to SOHR sources, the killer was hosted in another family’s house on August 14, but he opened fire on the house’s owner and his wife, before he escaped.

It is worth noting that people in most of the Syrian geography still practice tribal traditions, including retaliation and “honour” killing.
