SOHR: RUSSIAN WARPLANES CONTINUE TO RAIN HELL ON GREATER IDLIB MILITANTS
On September 19, a new wave of Russian airstrikes targeted militants’ positions in the northwestern Syrian region of Greater Idlib.
According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, Russian warplanes carried out a total of 17 airstrikes on the region, which is governed by al-Qaeda-affiliated Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS).
- Two airstrikes targeted the town of al-Fatterah in the southern countryside of Idlib.
- Five airstrikes targeted the town of Kansafra and its outskirts in the southern countryside of Idlib.
- Three airstrikes targeted the town of Bassams in the southern countryside of Idlib.
- Three airstrikes targeted the town of Ablin in the southern countryside of Idlib.
- Four airstrikes targeted the al-Akrad Mount in the northern countryside of Lattakia.
The Russian airstrikes coincided with a heavy rocket attack by the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) on militants’ positions in the outskirts of Jisr al-Shughur town in the western countryside of Idlib.
Recently, several reports said that the SAA and its allies are preparing to launch a new ground operation in Greater Idlib to deter HTS and its allies as well as to reopen and secure the Lattakia-Aleppo highway, known as the M4.
Al the targets hit by the Russian Aerospace Forces and the SAA on September 19 were located to the south of the M4 highway. This may be a sign of a near ground operation.
