Nearly 120,000 new coronavirus cases in regime-held areas | Over 1,300 people die of the virus, as healthcare situation reaches disastrous level

As SOHR continues monitoring and tracking the escalating number of coronavirus cases and deaths in regime-held areas, reliable medical sources in regime-controlled areas have confirmed that nearly 120,000 new Covid-19 cases were detected in all Syrian provinces in the past few days, while 1,305 other cases died of the virus in the same period.

Meanwhile, regime authorities continue misinformation and keeping the real number of deaths and infection cases with coronavirus secret, through announcing about only tens of deaths daily at a time when a large number of deaths are claimed to be caused by pneumonia, despite the broad outbreak of the virus throughout Syria. Moreover, the intensive care units in several areas have reached their full operational capacity. On the other hand, the vaccination process is still underway. However, civilians fear of the poor storage of the vaccination.

According to SOHR latest statistics, based on reports obtained from reliable medical sources on the ground in regime-controlled areas, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases have approximated four million, of whom over 3,600,000 recovered, and 39,183 died.

It is worth noting that regime Ministry of Health’ official statistics announced 30,913 infections, of whom 2,136 people died and 23,093 recovered.

It is also worth noting that the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has documented the death of 211 doctors in the Syrian regime-held areas due to coronavirus, and they were documented by names, among them there were 172 doctors died in 2020.
