Demographic changes | Sultan Murad with other Turkish-backed factions loot properties of Afrin populations

SOHR activists have reported that the Turkish-backed factions have been working the demographic change at sight of Turkish forces, via replacing Afrin indigenous Kurdish inhabitants with the families of Turkish-backed factions in houses of the original deported residents from Afrin, in addition to selling real estate and lands for cheap prices to these faction’s elements.

Since the Turkey occupation to Afrin in 2018, Turkey planned to deport remains of indigenous Kurdish inhabitants from Afrin, and therefore Turkey practiced several violations to abuse the populations in order to force them to leave Afrin to escape the brutality violations by the Turkish forces and their proxies.

In addition to the files published by SOHR including documentations that exposes and confirms the crimes of Turkish forces in Afrin include raping, murdering, kidnapping, looting and even selling properties of the civilians and enforced deporting were accompanied with international silence and ignorance of the war crimes and humanitarian crimes against Afrin.

SOHR activists have obtained a list of 65 civilians from Bulbul district where Sultan al-Murad confiscated their houses by force under weapons threat, and looted their furniture and prevented civilians from returning to their houses.

Turkish backed factions planned to settle families of Ankara-backed gunmen in these houses, which forced the civilians to rent houses in Afrin for huge amounts of money or stay as guests at their relatives’ houses or even deport them to nearby villages.

Despite providing several residents’ complaints against the factions to the “Giving Rights Back” Committee, however, their appeal ended in disappointment.

Last month, SOHR documented the arrest of 115 citizens of Afrin, the majority of whom were arbitrarily arrested for collecting ransom ranging between 1,000 and 10,000 US $, including women and elderly people, who were severely beaten and brutally assaulted, in addition to the selling of residents house at cheap prices ranging between 1000 and 1500 US dollars per house.

On September 13, SOHR activists reported that militiamen of Sultan Murad faction seized the house of a civilian who had been displaced from Kafr Jenna in Sharran district to Aleppo city during “Olive Branch operation. Sultan Murad militiamen broke the doors of the house, took over it by force and turned it into a military headquarters in the past days.

SOHR monitored an operation by al-Jabha al-Shameyah faction to sell the house of a man known initially as “M.H.” in “Hubka” village for 1200 USDs.

Similarly, al-Hamza Division took over a house in al-Ashrafeya neighborhood in Afrin which belongs to a civilian known initially as “M.S.”, while the Division refused leaving the house despite the complaints against them, moreover, a refugee from Hayan town sold the house of a civilian known initially as “A.F.” from Qeybar village for 1400 USDs.

Residents of Afrin city are suffering from taxes and levies, which include all types of their agricultural crops. These levies are estimated at thousands of dollars monthly, considering the houses and agricultural lands of civilians as their own legitimately.
