After more than 15 weeks of detention | Authorities of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq release the representative of “Autonomous Administration” in Erbil

SOHR activists have reported that the authorities of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq have released the Syrian representative of the “Autonomous Administration” in Erbil, “Jihad Hassan”, after more than 15 weeks of detention in the Kurdistan Region.

The authorities of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq had arrested Jihad Hassan on June 10, 2021, with two members of the Relations Committee of the Democratic Union Party (PYD), when they were heading to Erbil airport. The two members of the PYD Relations Committee were released on July 29, 50 days after their arrest.

On August 2, representatives of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria announced that they received accurate information about the deterioration of the health of the representative of the Autonomous Administration in Erbil, and they held PYD fully responsible for the safety of Jihad Hassan.

The arrest of politicians and diplomats without any clear excuse or guilt violates all international diplomatic rules, and if they are arrested, the parties to whom they belong should be inform, so that they can be repatriated or replaced.
