Syrian desert | Over 20 ISIS members killed and injured in tens airstrikes by Russian jets on their positions

Russian aircraft continue their aerial operations in the Syrian desert, targeting positions, caves and bunkers where ISIS members are holed up and hide in Athariya and al-Rasafa deserts in Aleppo-Hama-al-Raqqah triangle, al-Sukhnah and Palmyra deserts in east Homs countryside and Deir Ezzor desert.

 

In this context, SOHR activists have reported that Russian fighter jets executed over 40 airstrikes in the past few hours. According to SOHR sources, these airstrikes have left nine ISIS members dead and 12 others injured. It is worth noting that most of the fatalities were documented in al-Raqqah and Hama deserts.

 

Since 24th of March 2019, SOHR has documented the killing of at least 1,564 regime soldiers and loyalists of Syrian and non-Syrian nationalities, including at least three Russians, and 153 Iranian-backed militiamen of non-Syrian nationalities. All were killed in attacks, bombings and ambushes by the “Islamic State”, west of Euphrates in the deserts of Deir Ezzor, al-Raqqah, Homs, al-Suwaidaa, Hama and Aleppo.

 

Also, four civilians working in gas fields, tens of shepherds and other civilians were killed and documented by SOHR in the same period, from late March 2019 until today. They were killed in attacks by ISIS cells. While 1,059 ISIS members were also killed in attacks and bombardment in the same period.

 

On September 29, SOHR activists reported that Russian fighter jets bombarded nearly 50 airstrikes on ISIS positions from east Homs desert to east Hama desert. The attacks coincided with combing campaign started by regime forces and Russian-backed militias in searching for ISIS cells in the region.
