Because of poverty | Young man burns himself to death in refugee camp in northern countryside of Aleppo

Aleppo province: SOHR activists have reported that a young man known by his initials as A. M. has committed suicide in a camp in the north-western countryside of Aleppo.

According to sources, the young man was displaced from Ain al-Taqa town in Hama countryside to al-Muhamadeya camp in Deir Ballut region in north Aleppo countryside, and he sat himself on fire today, using petrol.

Sources close to the young man have reported that he suffered from extreme poverty and couldn’t get a job, which spurred him to commit suicide.

Local sources of SOHR reported that the camp’s residents and emergency teams tried to save the young man, but they couldn’t save him in time.

On October 10, SOHR activists reported that a 17 years old girl from Aleppo city committed suicide, where she was found strangled inside her house in al-Salehiya town in Aleppo countryside. The reasons behind her suicide remain yet unknown.

It is worth noting that suicide has alarmingly increase throughout Syria in the recent time, especially with the deteriorating living conditions.
