SOHR: IRANIAN-BACKED FORCES ARE SETTING UP WEAPONS WORKSHOPS IN SYRIA’S RAQQA

The Iranian-backed Iraqi group Harakat Hezbollah al-Nujaba is building a number of weapons workshops in the eastern countryside of Syria’s Raqqa, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported on October 16.

According to the London-based monitoring group, the workshops are being built in several farms located around the town of Madan.

The workshops will reportedly manufacture mortar rounds, rocket launch rails and bullets of different calibers for Iranian-backed forces.

Harakat Hezbollah al-Nujaba is one of several Iraqi groups active in Syrian government-held parts of Raqqa and Deir Ezzor. These groups have been fighting ISIS remnants in central Syria and guarding the Syrian-Iraqi border line.

Last month, the SOHR reported that Iranian-backed forced moved short-range ballistic missiles from Deir Ezzor to Madan in Raqqa.

Iranian-backed forces are apparently working to solidify their presence in the eastern and southern Raqqa countryside. Recently, ISIS stepped up its attacks on the region. The terrorist group lost 14 of its terrorists in a large-scale attack on the region earlier this week.

Israel may soon attempt to target Iranian-backed forces in Raqqa, as it has been targeting them in the nearby Syrian governorates of Deir Ezzor and Homs.
