Despite ongoing reconciliation deals | 19 assassinations documented throughout Daraa since the start of Russian-sponsored agreements

Since the start of the recent reconciliation deals across Daraa province 46 days ago, hundreds of people handed over their individual weapons. However, assassinations and security chaos are still topping the events in several areas of the province.

 

The Syrian Observatory has documented the death of 19 people since the start of the recent agreements in Daraa. The fatalities were distributed as follows:

 

  • 13 civilians, including a child, some of them were former fighter and gave up fighting after striking reconciliation deals in 2018.

 

  • Six regime soldiers and members of the Russian-backed 5th

 

Further details on the circumstances of these assassinations could be summarised as follows:

 

  • September 14: A man died of severe wounds he sustained a few days earlier, after being shot by unknown gunmen in front of his house in Tafas city in the western countryside of Daraa.

 

  • September 22: Unknown gunmen opened fire on the secretary of a group affiliated to “Ba’ath Party”, the ruling party in Syria, in Um al-Mayazen town in eastern of Daraa, killing him immediately.

 

  • September 29: The leader of a local group affiliated to the 4th Division died of the wounds he sustained earlier in the morning, after being shot by gunmen who raided a commercial office in Taseel town, west of Daraa.

 

  • September 30: Unknown gunmen shot a member of the 4th Division dead in al-Muzayreb town in the western countryside of Daraa.

 

  • October 4: Unknown gunmen opened fire on a microbus driver in al-Muzayrib area in the western countryside of Daraa, killing him immediately. On the same day, October 4: A civilian was killed and two others were injured in gunfire by unidentified gunmen on a motorbike in Sanamayn in northern Daraa.

 

  • October 6: Two officers were shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Daraa highway near Ghazali complex, after leaving the police station where they worked in Izra’ area in the north-western countryside of Daraa.

 

  • October 7: A civilian from Nawa city was shot dead by unknown gunmen in front of his house in al-Sanamayn city in the western countryside of Daraa. However, the reasons behind this murder remained unknown. It is worth noting that the targeted man was a member of opposition factions before regime forces regained control of the entire province of Daraa in 2018, before he struck a reconciliation deal with security service and abandoned fighting. On the same day, a civilian was shot dead by unknown gunmen in his barber shop in al-Muzayrib city centre in western Daraa.

 

  • October 12: A young man was shot dead by unknown gunmen in Tafas city in western Daraa, but reasons behind the murder remained unknown. It is worth noting that the victim worked for opposition factions before the regime forces controlled Daraa province in 2018.

 

  • October 14: A civilian working in distributing desserts was shot dead by unknown gunmen in Nawa city in the western countryside of Daraa. It is worth noting that the victim had struck a reconciliation deal on October 9, after his name was included in the lists delivered by the regime security committee to the city’s dignitaries.

 

  • October 15: An unknown persons was found dead and dumped near Tafas city in west Daraa countryside. The body was taken to the city’s hospital to be identified. Meanwhile, unidentified gunmen shot a former opposition fighter daed in al-Sanameen city in Daraa countryside. The victim had give up fighting, as he struck a reconciliation after regime forces had controlled Daraa. On the other hand, residents found a dead young man near al-Shamry Presser on the road between al-Muzayrib and Masakin Jilen towns in the western Daraa countryside. According to SOHR sources, the young man was from Saisoun village in al-Shajara district in al-Yarmouk basin in western of Daraa, and he was kidnapped near Sahm al-Golan dam three days earlier, while he was in a car with another person.

 

  • October 16: Unknown gunmen opened fire on two persons in Sayda town in the eastern countryside of Daraa, killing one and injuring the other. It is worth noting that the killed man had been a fighter of opposition faction, before he struck a reconciliation deal and joined to the Russian-backed 5th Corps, after regime forces’ control of the entire province.

 

  • October 17: An ex-fighter of opposition factions was shot dead by unknown gunmen in Adawan town in western Daraa. On the other hand, a gunman riding a motorbike opened fire on a festival in Tafas city in the western countryside of Daraa, where an indiscriminate gunshot hit a child at head, and he died after he was taken to the hospital.

 

  • October 21: The leader of a local group working for the regime military security service was shot dead by unknown gunmen, while he was in his shop in Sayda town in east Daraa countryside. It is worth noting that the targeted person started commanding the group only a month earlier.

 

After the implementation of the Russian-sponsored agreement between the dignitaries of Daraa province and the regime security committee had been accomplished in Daraa al-Balad, west, north and middle Daraa countryside, the new reconciliation deals continued in the eastern countryside of Daraa. Recently, suspects in areas on the Syria-Jordan border have been settling their security situations.

 

According to the recent agreements, regime forces have entered the following cities, towns and villages:

 

  • West Daraa countryside: Daraa al-Balad, Tafas, Tel Shehab, al-Ajami, Nahj, al-Yadoudah, al-Muzayrib, Masakin Jileen, Zayzoun, Tasil, Jilin, Jamleh, al-Shajarah, Ma’ariyah, Abdeen, Koya, Beit Aarah, Naf’aa, al-Shabraq, al-Meseritiyyah, Ain Zekr, Sahem al-Golan and areas in Yarmouk Basin.

 

  • Middle Daraa countryside: Da’el.

 

  • North Daraa countryside: Inkhil, Nawa, Jasim and al-Sanamayn.

 

  • East Daraa countryside: Nasib, Nahteh, Um al-Mayazen, al-Na’emah, al-Misfrah, al-Taybah, Sayda, al-Karak al-Sharqi, al-Harrak, al-Sahwa, al-Ghariyyah al-Sharqiyyah, al-Ghariyyah al-Gharbiyyah, Kherbet Ghazalah, Namir, al-Musaqiyyat, al-Jizah, Alma and al-Surah.

 

On the other hand, there are nearly 17 other areas, towns and villages that have not been included under the new reconciliations yet, and they are as follows: Bosra al-Sham, Ma’raba, Tisiya, Alma, Mulayhat al-Atash, al-Mulayha al-Sharqiyah, al-Mulayha al-Gharbiyah and ten other villages in al-Lajat area. These areas are expected to experience striking of new reconciliations in the incoming days.
