Joined Ahrar al-Sharqiyah after fighting previously for “formerly Jabhat al-Nusra” | US drone kills jihadist in Turkish-held areas in al-Raqqah
Al-Raqqah province: Reliable sources have told SOHR that the man who was killed in a drone attack in al-Raqqah countryside yesterday was a jihadist who had served in the ranks of the “formerly Jabhat al-Nusra” which swore allegiance to al-Qaida, before he joined recently to Ahrar al-Sharqiyyah. The attack has raised questions about the reasons behind the presence of such jihadists in areas under the control of Turkish forces in Syria.
Meanwhile, US forces have announced that an affiliated drone killed the jihadist yesterday.
Yesterday, SOHR activists reported that a former jihadist was killed, in the evening, due to strikes by an unidentified drone near Arbid junction in Suluk countryside in “Peace Spring” areas, north of al-Raqqah province.
On late July, the US Treasury imposed new sanctions on several Syrian entities including Ahrar al-Sharqiya faction and its leader “Abu Hatem al-Shaqra” and his cousin the commander “Abu Jaafar al-Shaqra”.
