SOHR: Syria. The US Air Force has eliminated one of Al-Qaeda’s leaders

The attack took place near the city of Tall Abjad (Kurd. Gire Spî) in the muhafazi of Ar-Raqqa, near the border with Turkey. Al-Matar was associated with the Hurras el-Din (Religious Guard) group.

“A US air strike in northwestern Syria killed al-Qaeda commander Abdul Hamid al-Matar,” Major Rigsbee said. He added that there have been no reports of civilian casualties or injuries.

– Al-Qaeda uses Syria as a safe bay to rebuild its military potential, coordinate actions with other groups and plan new actions. Furthermore, northern Syria is the starting point for attacks in Iraq and other countries in the region, the CENTCOM statement said. According to the Pentagon, coupled with the liquidation of al-Qaeda̵

7;s senior commander, it has greatly undermined the ability to plan attacks that would threaten U.S. citizens, U.S. partners, and innocent citizens.
