Ongoing arbitrary arrests in Afrin | Women among 14 civilians arrested by al-Sham Corps in Jendires

Aleppo province: SOHR sources have reported that a patrol of al-Sham Corps which is close to the Turkish Intelligence launched a security campaign, on November 3, in Iska village in Jendires district in Afrin countryside in “Olive Branch” area. The Corps arbitrarily arrested 14 civilians, including women, from the village for “dealing with the former Autonomous Administration” and took them to the corps’ headquarters in the village.

Observatory activists have confirmed that the factions accused the arrested people of “communicating with the former Autonomous Administration” with the aim to blackmail them and force them to pay large ransoms in return for their release. It is worth noting that al-Sham Corps beat the arrested women brutally for resisting arrest, while other young men were also beaten and assaulted.

A few hours earlier, SOHR sources reported that patrols of “al-Jabha al-Shamiyyah” carried out an arrest campaign on the previous day, targeting people of al-Bobanna tribe in Afrin, after the faction had imposed a strict siege on the tribe’s houses.

According to SOHR sources, “al-Jabha al-Shamiyyah”, headed by a man known by his initials as A. A. stormed the house of the head of al-Bobanna tribe known as “Fares al-Sheikh” at the entrance of Afrin city. During the security campaign, the militiamen of “al-Jabha al-Shamiyyah” opened heavy fire indiscriminately, injuring the son of the head of the tribe seriously, and he was taken to a hospital in Afrin. Furthermore, several women and men sustained various injuries during the campaign.

Moreover, the faction’s militiamen arrested the head of the tribe and took him to unknown place, and they threatened to kidnap and evacuate the remaining people of the tribe to other areas, like they did with the people of al-Bokhamis tribe, who had been expelled from their houses and evacuated them to the northern countryside of Aleppo which is under the control of Kurdish forces by a commander of “al-Jabha al-Shamiyyah” known by his initials as A. K.
