Security instability | Unknown gunmen open fire on civilian in eastern Daraa

Daraa province: SOHR sources have reported that a civilian sustained serious injuries, after unknown gunmen on motorcycle opened fire on him in Nahteh town in the eastern countryside.

 

Yesterday, SOHR activists reported death of a civilian affected by the wounds he sustained, after unidentified gunmen opened fire on his car, while he was transporting two regime soldiers by his car on the Rakhm-Mulaiha west road in Daraa countryside. The two soldiers were also injured and were transported to nearby hospitals.

 

The accident came after striking reconciliation deals between regime forces and the dignitaries of Daraa province to hand over weapons.

 

Accordingly, the number of people who were killed across Daraa province since the start of the recent agreements has risen to 33. The fatalities were distributed as follows:

 

  • 18 civilians, including a child, some of them were former fighter and gave up fighting after striking reconciliation deals in 2018.

 

  • 13 regime soldiers, members of the Russian-backed 5th Corps and regime “collaborators”.

 

Since the beginning of the security chaos in Daraa in early June 2019, Syrian Observatory activists have documented more than 1,219 attacks and assassination attempts by gunfire and detonations of IEDs, motorcycle-bombs and car-bombs. These attacks and assassinations claimed the lives of 876 persons, categorised as follows:

 

  • 265 civilians, including 14 women and 25 children

 

  • 397 regime soldiers, loyalists and collaborators with regime security services.

 

  • 152 fighters of factions that struck “reconciliation and settlements” deals with the regime and became in the ranks of regime’s security branches, including former commanders.

 

  • 27 Syrian militiamen affiliated to the Lebanese Hezbollah and Iranian forces.

 

  • 35 members of the so-called 5th Corps which was established by Russia.
