SOHR:Russia Surprises America With A Missile System In Syria

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that the Russian forces deployed an S-300 missile system at Tabqa airport in Raqqa governorate, where American forces were deployed after liberating it from ISIS, which it considered its “capital”.

At the end of 2018, Russia deployed the S-300 system in Deir ez-Zor, which is under the control of the regime, when the areas east of the Euphrates were in the hands of the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces. But the map of control changed after former US President Donald Trump allowed the Turkish army to penetrate between Tal Abyad and Ras al-Ain, which opened the door for the entry of Russian, Turkish and Syrian forces to the east of the Euphrates River, in addition to the spread of Iranian militias in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor on the second bank of the river.

The Observatory added that Tabqa Airport “is currently a military base and an important location for Russia in the countryside of Raqqa,” noting that the Russian army has deployed the S-300, S-300, and S-400 advanced missile systems in various areas in western Syria. .

According to military experts, the S-300 system allows Russia to monitor military movements in northeastern Syria, where Turkey launches strikes against the Kurds using “drones.” .
