SOHR: Hearing explosions and shootings in Albukamal near the Iraqi border

On Monday, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that 4 explosions and shooting were heard in the Syrian city of Al-Bukamal, located in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor, near the border with Iraq.

The observatory confirmed that unidentified drones flew over the city, which is under the influence of groups affiliated with Iran, which witnessed 8 explosions in less than an hour.

The observatory had reported earlier on Monday about 4 successive explosions that hit the city of Al-Bukamal, adding that there was no information on whether the explosions were ground-based or caused by new air targeting of militia sites.

This comes hours after an aerial targeting of the city, as the Syrian Observatory indicated that an unidentified drone bombed the outskirts of the city of Al-Bukamal, and columns of smoke were seen rising from the outskirts of the city, without information about casualties so far.

The targeting came days after the Iranian militia’s flags were removed from some of their military posts and headquarters in the city of Al-Bukamal, and replaced with internationally recognized Syrian flags for fear of targeting operations, according to the observatory.
