Syrian desert | Russian jets renew strikes on ISIS hideouts

Over 420 Russian airstrikes hit ISIS positions in the Syrian desert since early November

SOHR sources say that four Russian fighter jets have consecutively struck ISIS positions, since early morning, in the area from the triangle of Hama-Aleppo-al-Raqqah to the deserts of Deir Ezzor and al-Raqqah running through east Homs desert. It is worth noting that the Russian jets executed nearly 70 airstrikes since morning on ISIS positions in the past 24 hours.

Yesterday, SOHR sources have reported that Russian fighter jets executed over 50 airstrikes on ISIS positions in Ghanem al-Ali area, Deir Ezzor desert, Jabal al-Bishri and Ithirya area.

It is worth noting that Russian helicopters participated in the observation and aerial operations in that region.

On the other hand, regime forces and Russian-backed militias brought in new reinforcement to Deir Ezzor desert as a part of preparations for launching a new combing operation, searching for ISIS cells.

Accordingly, the number of Russian strikes which targeted scattered ISIS hideouts in the Syrian desert since early November has exceeded 430.

The Russian airstrikes were concentrated on the area from east Hama desert to al-Rasafah desert in al-Raqqah running through Ithirya and al-Rahjan, and large spaces of Palmyra and Deir Ezzor deserts. These airstrikes coincided with routine combing operations by regime forces in searching for ISIS cells in several positions in the Syrian desert.
