SOHR: .Unidentified aircraft target Iran’s areas of influence in Albukamal

On Saturday, an explosion hit the Syrian city of Al-Bukamal, which is under the influence of Iranian-backed militias, in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor, within the western Euphrates region, amid the flight of unknown aircraft in the air.

As a result of the explosion, plumes of smoke rose, specifically near Aisha Hospital in the city, and coincided with the flight of drones in the air, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

This comes in light of the escalation of air targets by unknown drones, especially on Albukamal, which is of strategic importance.

previous hits

It is noteworthy that the city was similarly targeted on the 19th of this month (November 2021), when strong explosions were heard from the shoulder area on the outskirts of the city, which contains militia headquarters and ammunition depots, in conjunction with an unidentified drone flight over the area.

Also, on the tenth of this month (2021), sites and arms depots belonging to the Iranian militias were targeted.

About 15,000 fighters

It is noteworthy that the west bank of the Euphrates River in the border province of Deir ez-Zor with Iraq is the most prominent areas of influence of Iran and its militias in Syria, including Iraqi militias.

The observatory estimates the presence of about 15 thousand fighters from the Iraqi, Afghan and Pakistani groups, especially in the area extending between the border cities of Al-Bukamal and passing through Al-Mayadin.

Revolutionary Guards

To this are deployed thousands of members and military advisors from the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, although Tehran is only talking about advisors who help the regime forces.

They are mainly deployed on the border strip between the two countries since the end of the operations against ISIS in Iraq and then Syria, and they take the city of Albukamal as their headquarters.

Over the years, trucks carrying weapons and ammunition, as well as warehouses and military sites for the militias, have been subjected to air strikes, especially in the area between Al-Mayadin and Al-Bukamal.

While the finger was pointed at the Israeli planes, while Tel Aviv is usually silent about these attacks, except in rare cases.

Although successive governments in Israel have explicitly declared more than once that they will not allow the expansion of Iranian militias in Syria, threatening its security.
