“Al-Rokban” camp suffering | Newborn baby dies of inadequate health care

Displaced persons and refugees in Al- Rokban camp continue to suffer in the desert at the Syrian-Iraqi-Jordanian border triangle, which has become a “large prison” housing nearly 11 people who pay dearly for staying in the camp and fear of being arrested if they returns to areas held by regime.

In the line of absence of the basic needs and health care amid worsening living conditions and complete absence of the international organizations concerned with refugees’ affairs, SOHR activists have reported that a one-day-old baby from Palmyra has died due to inadequate access to healthcare services, according to the hospital midwife.

We, at the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, renew our appeal to the international community and the international organizations concerned with refugees’ affairs to establish a clinic hosting medical specialists and emergency doctors in Al-Rokban camp or to provide patient transportation to those who require medical treatment within Jordanian territory as most of the displaced persons and refugees in the camp are afraid to go to areas controlled by the regime.

On November 12, SOHR reported that a three-month-old baby was died due to lack of health care inside the camp and doctors in addition to inability of securing milk to their baby and the mother’s inability to feed her baby amid rise of the baby formula inside the camp.
