Coronavirus regime-held areas | 130,000 new cases, nearly 900 deaths amid regime denial and false statistics

As SOHR continues monitoring and tracking the escalating number of coronavirus cases and deaths in regime-held areas, reliable medical sources in regime-controlled areas have confirmed that nearly 132,000 new Covid-19 cases were detected in all Syrian provinces in the past few days, while 898 other cases died of the virus in the same period.

Meanwhile, regime authorities continue misinformation and keeping the real number of deaths and infection cases with coronavirus secret, through announcing about only tens of deaths daily at a time when a large number of deaths are claimed to be caused by pneumonia, despite the broad outbreak of the virus throughout Syria. Moreover, reliable medical sources in regime-held areas have informed SOHR that all hospitals have reached their maximum operational capacity, which indicates to a looming humanitarian disaster. On the other hand, the vaccination process is still underway. However, civilians are concerned about the poor storage of the vaccines.

According to SOHR’s latest statistics, based on reports obtained from reliable medical sources on the ground in regime-controlled areas, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases have approximated 6,000,000, of whom over 5,650,000 recovered, and 45,887 died.

It is worth noting that regime Ministry of Health’ official statistics announced 49,101 infections, of whom 2,804 people died and 30,276 recovered.

It is also worth noting that the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has documented the death of 211 doctors in the Syrian regime-held areas due to coronavirus, and they were documented by names, among them there were 172 doctors died in 2020.
