“This is the only bread available. If you do not like it, go and buy high quality bread” | Poor quality of subsidized bread in Al-Raqqah bakeries

Al-Raqqah province: As bread crisis continues in the bread bakeries subsidized by the commission of supply of Al-Raqqah Civil council, SOHR sources have reported that the quality of the bread sold in these bakeries is very poor. In addition, the bread smells like diesel.

On the other hand, some residents in Al-Raqqah have complained of the bad behaviour of the contractors of these bakeries when someone ask about the reasons behind this poor quality. A local source has reported an incident of this bad behaviour, where the contractor of a bakery replied to a civilian saying “This is the only bread available. If you like it, pay for it and leave. If you do not like it, go and buy high quality bread.”

The Autonomous Administration had issued a decision in early December raising the price of the nine-loaf bread packs to 300 SYL each, while the weight of the pack, 1.25 kilograms, remained unchanged.

The Syrian Observatory has obtained pictures in several bakeries in Al-Raqqah showing the poor quality of bread.
