SOHR exclusive | Al-Busayrah security campaign targets “arm dealers and ISIS affiliates”, while death toll jumps to four

Deir Ezzor province: The Syrian Observatory has obtained new details on today’s security campaign by Syria Democratic Forces and International Coalition Forces in Al-Busayrah city in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor.

According to SOHR sources, the campaign targeted several suspects accused of “dealing in weapons and belonging to ISIS”, while one of the sons of the teacher, who was killed during the campaign, was among the targeted suspects. The young man refused to surrender and attempted to escape with his brother-in-law on a motorcycle, before Coalition soldiers on a helicopter shot the two persons dead.

Meanwhile, the military groups participating in the campaign stormed the house of the teacher, drove the teacher and his other son out and executed them by firing squad.

Accordingly, the number of people killed during the security campaign has risen to four: a teacher, two of his sons and their brother-in-law.

It is also worth noting that the people arrested during the security campaign included arm dealers and civilians.

A few hours ago, SOHR activists reported an airdrop by International Coalition Forces in Al-Busayrah city in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor, in the early hours of Monday morning, with the participation of an SDF-backed military group. The security groups surrounded Al-Busayrah city, asking some civilians to surrender using loudspeakers, before sound of gunfire and explosions of unknown origin was heard. It is not known yet whether the gunfire was caused by exchange of fire between the two sides or by the security forces alone.

According to SOHR sources, SDF and Coalition Forces shot dead a teacher from Abriyah area and two of his sons, and arrested many people on charges of “dealing and belonging to ISIS.”

On December 10, SOHR activists reported that SDF forces backed by Counter-Terrorism Special Units (H.A.T.) continued the security campaign in Al-Busayra city in the eastern Deir Ezzor countryside, where they set up security checkpoints and blocked roads to the city and arrested several people on charge of “belonging to ISIS.”

While on December 6, SOHR activists reported that gunmen riding motorcycles stormed the building of the People’s Assembly and the Women’s Council in Al- Basira city which is under the control of SDF in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor, breaking down office furniture and threatened to kill the employees if they returned to their work.
