Simalka border protests | KRI closes Simalka border crossing with AANES areas

Government of Kurdistan Regional of Iraq has closed Simalka crossing (Fish Khabur) linking areas under its control with areas under the control of The Autonomous Administration in northern and eastern Syria. the KRI government accused members of the “revolutionary youth” of attacking the border crossing from the Kurdistan region side, after they crossed the bridge linking the two sides on Tigris river in the far north-eastern region of Syria.

The administration of the Simalka border crossing accused the “Revolutionary Youth” of wounding members of security forces and border guard forces and damaging their vehicles which were attempting to prevent protesters from crossing the border from the Syrian side. The protestors demanded to hand over the bodies of their sons who had been killed by the Peshmerga forces in Qandil Mountains.

Yesterday, SOHR activists reported that security forces of the Kurdistan Region in Iraq dispersed protests staged at Simalka crossing bridge linking areas under the control of the Autonomous Administration with the Kurdistan region.

The protestors demanded receiving of bodies of their sons who served in the ranks of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party “PKK” and had been killed by the Peshmerga forces in Qandil Mountains.

According to SOHR, several protesters were injured during the attempt by security forces of the Kurdistan region to disperse the demonstration, and they were dispatched to fields hospitals in Al-Malikiyah city (Dayrik) in Al-Hasakah countryside.
