Amid ongoing transportation of oil to areas controlled by regime and Turkish-backed factions | Acute shortage of diesel hits SDF-held areas

SOHR sources have reported that areas under the control of Syria Democratic Forces are struggling with acute shortage of diesel for days, especially with the recent cold weather.

According to SOHR sources, diesel is not available in petrol stations in these areas almost completely, as only three or four trucks carrying diesel are unloaded in every stations, although the diesel allocations supposed to be delivered to these petrol station are eight trucks each.

In Al-Hasakah province however, heating allowances and subsidies have not provided to the residents so far. Moreover, the petrol stations experienced congestion for hours, as the residents were attempting to get diesel at the price set by the Energy Board of the Autonomous Administration, but these petrol stations ran out of diesel before all the residents get their needs due to the low amounts that had been distributed to the stations.

On the other hand, the monthly allocations of diesel provided at the subsidized price, 110 SYL per litre, to the farmers in SDF-held areas have not been distributed yet, which forced the farmers to buy diesel in black markets for 750 SYL to 1,000 SYL per litre.

Local sources have reported that the reason behind the lack of diesel in areas under the control of the Autonomous Administration is that the diesel is sold to smugglers who sell it in areas under the control of Turkish-backed factions and regime-held areas. In addition, tens of oil trucks leave SDF-held areas to Turkish-backed factions and regime-held areas on a daily basis.

A few days ago, SOHR sources reported protests by the residents in SDF-held areas in Deir Ezzor countryside over the low amount of flour allocated to bread bakeries which led to lack of bread in these areas.
