Ward off attacks | Iran- backed militias fortify their positions west Euphrates

SOHR sources have reported that Iran-backed militias, stationed in positions and points on the western banks of Euphrates River, In the area opposite Sousah and Baghouz towns which were the former stronghold of ISIS before its collapse, in villages on Al-BoKamal-Mayadeen line, have been working for days to fortify their positions by raising soil barriers and switching some points and sites for camouflage purposes “for fear of being targeted.”

This comes after Iranian-backed militias brought in two arms shipments from Iraq to their positions in Al-Raqqa desert and Al-Mayadeen city this month.

On December 13, SOHR sources reported that Iranian-backed militias transported a weapon shipment to their positions and pre-boosted posts in Maadan area in Al-Raqqah desert at midnight.

According to SOHR sources, the recently transported weapons arrived a few days ago from Iraq in Athar Al-Shibli area on the outskirts of Al-Mayadeen aboard vegetable trucks. The weapon shipment was transported under strict security measures at that time.

On December 5, SOHR activists reported seeing a shipment of arms and ammunition loaded on vegetable trucks for camouflage purposes “for fear of being targeted” by the United States or Israel. The convoy of trucks entered Syrian territory from Iraq over the past hours and headed to Mayadin city, an Iranian stronghold west of Euphrates, where the trucks’ contents were unloaded into warehouses in the ancient Shibli area.
