Ras Al-Ain (Sere Kanyie) | Turkish-backed National Army sell stolen trees as “fire logs for heating” in markets

SOHR activists have reported that Turkish-backed factions continue their large-scale logging operations in orchards of Ras Al-Ain (Sere Kaniye) city and its countryside in “Peace Spring” areas.

According to Syrian Observatory activists, members of “Ahrar Al-Sharqiyah, Sultan Murad and Al-Hamzat Division” factions have cut down trees to sell them in a market for selling stolen trees as “firewood for heating” near chicken market, east of Ras Al-Ain city.

It is worth noting that Ras Al-Ain city in the countryside of Al-Hasakah is witnessing a sharp hike in the prices of essential commodities in light of the ongoing collapse of the Turkish lira against foreign currencies. In addition, a pack of bread has reached 500 SYL with reducing the number of loaves, some women on sidewalks sell a pack of bread for 1000 SYL.

On December 13, SOHR sources Turkish-backed factions continued their violations against the people of Ras Al-Ain (Sere Kaniye) in the north-western countryside of Al-Hasakah, in “Peace Spring” areas.
In this context, the Local Council in Ras Al-Ain city threatened to destroy over 50 shops in Tel Halaf town, which is located nearly two kilometres to the west of Ras Al-Ain city, if the owners of these shops did not hand over them to the Turkish-backed militiamen.

Under these Local Council’s threats, some shop owners emptied their shops and took away the doors. Meanwhile, the owners of nearly 20 shops refused to comply with the Local Council’s decision, so the factions destroyed, this afternoon, over 20 shops near Tel Halaf roundabout.

The Turkish-backed factions justified this decision that these shops were established on “public properties”. However, SOHR sources have confirmed that these shops have existed for over 20 years, as they were established during the Syrian regime’s control of that region.

It is worth noting that the factions of the Turkish-backed National Army continue seizing private and public properties in Ras Al-Ain city and countryside for their own favour.
