Detained for a year | Ex-Al-Qaeda Saudi commander transferred to Idlib hospital by HTS after his health deteriorates

Idlib province: Syrian Observatory sources have said that Tahrir al-Sham has transferred, “Abu Abd al-Rahman Al-Makki,” a former commander of Al-Qaeda and a member of Shura council of “Hurras al-Din” organization, to Idlib hospital, due to deteriorating health after being severely tortured in Hayyat Tahrir Al-Sham prison, where he was arrested by Tahrir Al-Sham a year ago.

Al-Makki went on a hunger strike in early September, protesting torture and ill-treatment.

On December 3, Musab Kanaan, one of his former escorts, was killed by Coalition airstrike.

It is worth noting that the Saudi-born commander “Abu Abdulrahman Al-Makki” was detained by Hayyaat Tahrir Al-Sham since October 2020 when he was arrested in Jisr Al-Shougur area in western Idlib.

On December 4, The Syrian Observatory obtained new information about an attack by US drone in Idlib province, which killed an ex-jihadi of Hurras Al-Din organization and injured several civilians.

According to SOHR sources, the killed man was an escort of the senior commander in Hurras Al-Din organization “Abu Abdulrahman Al-Makki”. The targeted former jihadist, who was from Ishim town in Jabal Al-Zawiyah in the southern countryside of Idlib, had abandoned fighting nearly a year ago, and he taught Turkish in an institute in Idlib city.

The attack also injured six civilians of the same family, a man, his wife, and their four sons, including two children, who were displaced from Kafr Batikh village in the eastern countryside of Idlib, as the car they were traveling in was passing near the site of the drone attack

It is worth noting that the Saudi-born commander “Abu Abdulrahman Al-Makki” was detained by Hayyaat Tahrir Al-Sham since October 2020 when he was arrested in Jisr Al-Shougur area in western Idlib.

On the other hand, US forces claimed responsibility for the attack and issued an official statement confirming the injury of civilians due to this attack. According to the statement, an investigation of this incident was in progress.
