New protests in ‘Euphrates Shield ‘areas | Teachers demand improvement of educational system and salary increase

Teachers have staged two protests in Al-Bab and Azaz cities in the countryside of Aleppo in areas controlled by Turkish forces and “national army” factions, to demand improvement of the educational process and increase in their monthly salaries that are not commensurate with living conditions, SOHR sources said.

On December 28, Reliable sources informed SOHR that several members of the teachers’ union in areas controlled by Turkish forces and factions of “Euphrates Shield” operations room submitted their resignations, after threats by the Directorate of Education in “Euphrates Shield” area of accusing them of incitement against the Turkish presence in northern Syria, as well as charges of abetting the latest protests which demand improvement of teacher’s conditions in “Euphrates Shield” areas.

Meanwhile, The Directorate of Education of the Syrian National Coalition refused accepting the Teachers Syndicate and the Constituent Committee as a representative of male and female teachers which considered it as an illegal union.

Furthermore, the areas under the control of Turkish forces and their proxies witnessed several protests by teachers, which were met with repression, arrests and assault.

While on December 23, SOHR activists reported that teachers staged a protest in front of department of education building in Al-Bab city, east of Aleppo, to demand salary increase in light of difficult living conditions.

On December 10, A joint patrol of the Military Police and the “National Army” arrested five men, and they were as follows: four men of the same families, a teacher and his three sons from Al-Bab and another one from Palmyra. The Turkish-backed factions beat the first man’s pregnant wife, which caused bruises and she was taken to the hospital.
