Precautionary measures against possible Iranian attack | International forces withdraw most forces from Al-Tanaf base to Jordan

Reliable sources have informed SOHR that large forces of the International Coalition stationed in Al-Tanaf base in the Syrian desert at Iraq-Jordan-Syria borders triangle have withdrawn from the base heading to Jordan in the past few hours in a precautionary measure against any possible rocket or air attacks that could be conducted by Iran-backed factions.

Today marks the first anniversary of Qassem Soleimani’s death. According to sources, the coalition left some of its forces in the base inside special shelters that are hard to be infiltrated while the largest number of forces withdrew and they will return back in the coming few hours.

Yesterday, reliable sources informed SOHR that the International Coalition Forces stationed in Al-Tanaf base at Iraq-Jordan-Syria borders triangle instructed their loyal Maghawir Al-Thawra faction to be put on high alert and deployed in the perimeter of the base which is located at the 55-kilometre zone in the Syrian desert, fearing retaliatory attacks by Iran-backed militiamen on the anniversary of Qassem Soleimani’s death.

On the other hand, SOHR sources reported that Coalition forces stationed in Al-Tanaf base were preparing shelters and bulwarks to protect the forces from any possible attacks that may be carried out by Iran-backed militia.

Earlier on Monday, reliable sources informed SOHR that, Iranian proxies transported sophisticated weapons to “Al-Kimawi Battalion” located in the eastern Palmyra mountain range, in the east of Homs desert, near “Sawana” mountainous area, more 60 km far from south of Palmyra, in the past hours.

According to Syrian Observatory sources, the transported weapons included Iranian-made medium and long-range missiles, while the position where the weapons were transferred to is fully fortified and is banned of approach. Near the location, there is a nature reserve that banned also livestock to approach. “Al-Kimawi Battalion” hosts underground shelters and tunnels that facilitate the underground movement, and Iranian military experts.

Reliable sources added that these weapons were transferred from Iranian proxies warehouses sit in very high mountain “Jabal Muhammad Ibn Ali,” overlooking Palmyra city.

It is worth noting that these weapons had been transferred towards Al-Tanaf base, where the international coalition forces are located on the death’s anniversary of Qassem Soleimani, a prominent Iranian general who was killed by US airstrike in Iraqi a year ago.
