Daraa | Regime patrol chases and kills former opposition member

Daraa province: Reliable sources have informed SOHR that a former member of opposition factions, who struck reconciliation without joining any military side, was killed in Daraa.

According to sources, a patrol of the regime intelligence chased a car commuted a young man from Nawy city in west Daraa till his house. Then clashed broke out between the young man and members of the patrol leading to his death. The patrol members took the body of the dead man.

Since the beginning of 2022, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) has documented 13 assassination attempts and attacks by gunfire and detonations of IEDs in Daraa province, south of Syria.

These attacks and assassinations claimed the lives of 12 persons, including six civilians and five soldiers of regime forces and their security services, and former fighter of the factions who, after striking reconciliation deals, served in the ranks of the regime forces.

Since the beginning of the security chaos in Daraa in early June 2019, Syrian Observatory activists have documented more than 1,306 attacks and assassination attempts by gunfire and detonations of IEDs, motorcycle-bombs and car-bombs. These attacks and assassinations claimed the lives of 956 persons, categorised as follows:

• Four anti-reconciliation local militants.
• 309 civilians, including 18 women and 26 children
• 416 regime soldiers, loyalists and collaborators with regime security services
• 159 fighters of factions that struck “reconciliation and settlements” deals with the regime and became in the ranks of regime’s security branches, including former commanders
• 31 Syrian militiamen affiliated to the Lebanese Hezbollah and Iranian forces
• 37 members of the so-called 5th Corps which was established by Russia.
