Rif Damascus | Iranian militia fortify air defence post and deploy in another position in east Al-Ghoutah

Rif Dimashq province: Reliable sources have informed SOHR that Iran-backed militia from different non-Syrian nationalities have centered in one of the farms stationed between Deir Al-Asafeer and Bizaynah regions in east Ghouta Dimashiq.

According to SOHR sources, the Iranian militia have been working for months on preparing and fortifying the farm with ready-made rooms and soil barriers. The Iranian militia have brought in “iron sheets” and some trees and put them in the farm to camouflage their moves against reconnaissance aircrafts. They also deployed some checkpoints on the vicinity of the farm that has been used as a former headquarters for the 4th Division after the regime controlled the southern part of east Al-Ghoutah in May 2016.

Some farmer have told SOHR sources that members speaking in Iraqi dialects and other do not speak Arabic have been touring the surroundings of the farm, that has been taken as a post for Iranian factions, on daily bases.

On the other hand, reliable sources have informed SOHR that the Iranian factions based inside “Air defence Liwaa 22” in north Al-Otiybah lake in east Al-Ghoutah countryside in Damascus province, have been bolstering the post largely via digging tunnels and shelters and covered the digging areas with trees to avoid being spotted by satellites and reconnaissance aircrafts.

On January 2, reliable sources informed SOHR that Lebanese “Hezbollah” began digging and expanding an old military base previously used by the regime forces to conduct flying training with reconnaissance aircraft and as air force intelligence centre training for live-firing drills, in an area near Khirbet Al-Ward village near Al- Sayyidah Zainab area south of Damascus, where Lebanese “Hezbollah” has been located since 2015.

According to Syrian Observatory sources, over the past few days, Lebanese “Hezbollah” began digging “potholes and basements” in the base where its experts and members are stationed. Hezbollah also concealed Iranian-made drones in “basements and potholes” that had previously dug for fear of being targeted by Israel. Members of Hezbollah also kicked farmers out of their lands that are near the base for fear of filming them while digging.

Shipments of weapons, ammunition, and parts to manufacture drones had arrived at Dimas military airport in the western countryside of Damascus at Tifor airport in Homs countryside, SOHR reliable sources reported.

It is worth noting that Iran and its backed militias almost completely controlled Dimas military airport during the recent period.

Moreover, Hezbollah members are conducting drilling operations in and around the airport to store strategic weapons brought by Iran to the area close to the Syrian-Lebanese border, Syrian Observatory sources said experts from Iran’s “Revolutionary Guard” and some experts from Lebanon’s Hezbollah who have trained in Iran are there in Dimas airport.

We, at SOHR, renew our call upon all international actors to intensify their efforts to expel Iran and its proxies from Syria and bring to justice all who aided and abetted the killing and displacement of Syrian people
