Fourth crime since early January | Iraqi refugee killed by ISIS cells in Al-Hawl camp

SOHR sources have reported a new assassination has occurred in Al-Hawl “mini-state” camp, where an Iraqi refugee was killed by unidentified persons, believed to be ISIS members, on Sunday evening.

According to Syrian Observatory sources, the victim was found dead, after being hit with three gunshots to the head and chest.

The victim was from Iraqi “Ramadi” city and was working in pitching the tents in the camp.

Accordingly, the number of intentional murder crimes inside Al-Hawl camp has risen to four since 2022: two Iraqi refugees, a Kurdish Red Crescent volunteer and a Syrian displaced person.

On January 11 , SOHR activists reported that unidentified gunmen believed to belong to ISIS, assassinated a paramedic of a services checkpoint in Al-Hawl camp in Al-Hasakah countryside.

According to sources, the paramedic was shot in the head and died immediately, after the shooters tried to enter the Kurdish Red Crescent’s service checkpoint with fake identities. The checkpoint was evacuated to allow security members to investigate the incident.
