Violations in Afrin | Turkish backed factions fell trees for making coal and impose levies on car owners

Aleppo province: SOHR activists have reported that the Turkish-backed Liwaa Asifat Al-Shamal faction has imposed levies on civilians in Sharran district in Afrin countryside. The levies reached 300 Turkish Liras imposed on car drivers who wanted to pass to Azaz city through the checkpoint of Dikmadash village in Sharran district separating between Afrin and Azaz city in the northern Aleppo countryside.

On the other hand, members of the Turkish-backed “National Army” factions are still felling fruit-bearing and forest trees in the neighbourhoods and villages of Afrin, where Al-Sultan Murad faction felled over 20 olive trees belonged to a civilian from Khirbat Shiran village on January 16.

Moreover, Al-Sham Corps, which is affiliated to Turkish intelligence, felled over 125 olive trees in Fafirten and Basufan villages in Shirawa district on January 16.

While Al-Sultan Murad faction is felling forest trees in Bulbul district by heavy bulldozers, where they ruin lands planted with oak trees to sell them as coal in local markets.

On January 16, SOHR activists reported that as factions of the Turkish-backed “National Army” continued felling trees and bushes in the towns and villages of Afrin in north-western Aleppo, Al-Sham Corps, which is close the Turkish Intelligence, felled over 50 olive trees belonging to civilians from Adamu village in Raju district in order to sell them as fire logs.

While in Sharran district, Sultan Murad Division cut off over 150 olive trees belonging to for civilians from Maydanki village in Sharran district, although the residents had filed complaints against the Turkish-backed faction in the headquarters of “Rights Restitution Committee” which took no action to put an end to the unjust felling of trees in the village.

On the other hand, Suleiman Shah Division, led by Abu Amsha, looted 50 20-litre tins of olive oil by force from an old woman known by her initials as A. J. in Khalil village in Sheikh Hadeed district (Shiaa). The faction also took over a tank of water in front of the house of the woman who could restore the tank and 17 tins of the looted oil, after she had paid 25,000 TL to a commander in Al-Amshat faction and the security official in the village known as “Sheikh Ibrahim”.

In Afrin city, however, members of “Al-Jabha Al-Shamiyyah”, led by “Nedal Al-Bayanouni” stole five tractors belonging to that old woman’s sons in the same village. Although the residents filed complaints against the militiamen of “Al-Jabha Al-Shamiyyah” and called to check security cameras in that area, the faction claimed that the cameras are broken down in order to cover up the militiamen theft.
