Death toll update | Nearly 70 people killed in ISIS deadliest attack in three years

Al-Hasakah province: Reliable SOHR sources have reported that US fighter jets have carried out two raids on the hideouts of ISIS cell and escaped prisoners in Al-Zouhour neighbourhood and the vicinity of Al-Sina’a prison in Al-Hasakah city.

Meanwhile, the death toll of ISIS deadliest attack in three years has risen to 67: 39 ISIS members, five civilians and 23 members of Asayish Forces, the prison’s guards and counter-terrorism forces, all killed in the ongoing violent clashes since yesterday

The number of deaths is expected to rise further because many people have sustained injuries, while there are unconfirmed reports of more fatalities.

On the other hand, the military forces continue their attempts to restore control of the prison, amid ongoing combing operations in the prison’s vicinity and Ghuwayran and Al-Zouhour neighbourhoods, where there are dozens of ISIS prisoners free, after escaping from the prison in the early hours of Friday morning.

Nearly 100 prisoners have been arrested, while SDF military forces have imposed a curfew in the region and intensified security measures on the entrances of Al-Hasakah city, preventing anyone from entering or leaving the city.

It is worth noting that Ghuwayran prison hosts nearly 3,500 ISIS leading figures and members, and it is the only prison in the world hosting such large number of ISIS prisoners.

It is also worth noting that this was the most violent and largest attack on populated areas since elimination of ISIS as a controlling power in March 2019.
