Three days of violent clashes with ISIS | Military forces close to regain control of Ghuwayran prison

Al-Hasakah province: Reliable sources have informed SOHR that the prisoners and members of ISIS still control some dormitories inside Ghuwayran prison in Al-Hasakah city, while some of the organisation’s members are still deployed in the vicinity of the prison.

Meanwhile, the surroundings of the prison have witness sporadic exchanging of fire. However, the forces participating to the process of battles have managed to impose control on all surrounding areas of the prison except for some hideouts of ISIS members and some dormitories inside the prison.

Meanwhile, the number of fatalities on both sides since the early hours of Sunday morning has risen to 23  ISIS members and 11 fighters of the military forces. The operation of regaining control of the prison has also left several people on both sides wounded, which may raise the death toll.

The total death toll since the start of Ghuwayran prison break on Thursday evening has reached 136: 84 ISIS fighters, seven civilians and 45 members of Asayish Forces, prison guards and counter-terrorism forces.

Observatory asserts that the death toll was even higher, and the real number of fatalists was not exactly identified, as the fate of dozens members on both sides is still unknown. In addition, there were many people who sustained serious injuries.
