SOHR | We appeal to all international actors to establish centres for rehabilitation of Syrian children of the “Caliphate Cubs” and work on repatriating the foreign

Very reliable sources have confirmed the presence of a large number of children, who had been “fighters” of an ISIS-backed formation dubbed the “Caliphate Cubs”, in “Ghuwayran-Al-Sina’a” prison in Al-Hasakah. However, their fate remains unknown after nearly 90 hours of ongoing fierce clashes and dramatic developments in that region.

We, at the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), emphasise that holding these children in prisons with ISIS members and others will produce a new generation believing in and clinging to the organisation’s extremist ideology and believes, and such generation will only imitates ISIS atrocities, including killing, destruction, intimidation and terrorization of innocent Syrian civilians.

We appeal to all international actors to establish centres for the rehabilitating these children of the Syrian nationality, hire well-qualified experts to supervise the process of rehabilitation and provide all need support, as the Autonomous Administration has no enough capability to bear needed expenses for keeping thousands of ISIS members and their children and families in its custody for longer time or rehabilitating them. We also demand the repatriation of foreign children to their countries, so that foreign authorities undertake responsibility for rehabilitating their “little citizens”.
