Clashes over Abu Al-Zandin crossing | disputes among Turkish-backed factions in Aleppo

Aleppo province: SOHR activists have reported that Al-Sultan Murad faction, which is affiliated to Thaaeron Association (Uprising Association), has brought military reinforcements to “Euphrates Shield” region.

According to reliable SOHR sources, large reinforcements headed towards Abu Al-Zandin crossing in Al-Bab city, in an attempt to expel the 3rd Legion from the crossing.

It is worth noting that to Thaaeron Association (Uprising Association)demands their share of smuggling revenue, while other sources claimed that the factions are preparing to open the crossing with regime forces with the ongoing commercial movements in regime-held areas in the northern Aleppo countryside.

Moreover, Malik Shah faction, which is affiliated to the 3rd Legion, has strengthened its presence in Al-Bab city and deployed on the gates and exits of the city, fearing a military campaign against the faction by Thaaeron Association (Uprising Association) factions to control Abu Al-Zandin crossing.

On January 23, several factions joined Thaaeron Association (Uprising Association) after “Syrian Liberation Front and Revolutionary Liberation Committee merged under the new formation, where the commander Fahim Eissa was appointed as general commander of the new formation, Mutassem Abbas as chief of staff, and Al-Hamza Division’s commander Saif Abu Bakr as deputy chief of staff.

SOHR activists documented the death of a member of Al-Sulltan Suleiman Shah faction “Al-Amshat”, led by “Abu Amsha”, due to the explosion of an RPG shell during transportation and distribution of weapons to the faction’s members in Al-Shaikh Hadeed region in Afrin countryside.
According to sources, “Al-Amshat” faction distributed ammunition to members in light of the state of alertness between “Al-Amshat” and “Al-Jabha Al-Shamiyah”.
Moreover, “Al-Amshat” faction brought in military reinforcement to Al-Shaikh Hadeed region including anti-tank missiles.
Al-Mawaly tribe threatened, through one of the dignitaries, Al-Jabha Al-Shamiyah and other factions trying to erosion of Al-Amshat in Shaikh Hadid district of Afrin countryside.
On January 15, SOHR activists reported seeing Turkish-backed factions on high alert in several areas in Afrin canton in the northern countryside of Aleppo.
According to SOHR sources, large reinforcement of Liwaa Al-Samarqand, Liwaa Suqur Al-Shamal, Al-Hamzah Division, Sultan Murad Division and gunmen of Al-Mawali tribe have arrived in that region to support Al-Amshat faction against “Al-Jabha Al-Shamiyyah” and the Third Corps, after Al-Amshat factions had prevented villages’ elder in Sheikh Hadeed district from leaving the district to Afrin, so that they could not reach the committee investigating the violations committed by Al-Amshat. It is worth noting that this committee is entrusted to investigate the cases of taking over civilian properties by forces and imposition of levies.
Meanwhile, Sultan Murad Division has sent large reinforcement from Maydanki in Sharran district to Sheikh Hadeed district, amid calls by the commander of Suleiman Shah faction upon the factions’ members to head to be deployed throughout Sheikh Hadeed district and the villages of Jaqla Fuqani, Jaqla Wastani, Jaqla Tahtani, Al-Kana and Khalil.
On the other hand, the factions of Jaysh Al-Sharqiyyah, Ahrar Al-Sharqiyyah and the military police have put on high alert in “Olive Branch” area. Moreover, a commander in the council of Al-Mawali tribe known as “Abu Zidan” threatened to launch a comprehensive war against “Al-Jabha Al-Shamiyyah”, if “Al-Jabha Al-Shamiyyah” attacked Suleiman Shah faction.
