NW Syria | 12 fires break out in refugee camps in January

Syrian Observatory has documented 12 fires in refugee camps in north-west Syria region in January, all caused by misusing of materials used for heating or malfunctions in stoves. These fires have left casualties, caused substantial material damage and left several families in the open.

 

Today, a child and his mother were injured due to a fire in their tent in Al-Ameriyah camp near Kafr Yahmoul town in northern Idlib, caused by misusing of a coal-burner stove.

 

Another tent in Kaziyat Badlah camp in Hazanu town in Idlib countryside was burnt down due to a malfunction in a wood-burner stove. However, no casualties have been reported.

 

Also, a tent was burned down in Al-Zaytoun camp in Kafr Yahmoul in north Idlib due to a malfunction in a wood-burner stove, which caused material damage only.

 

On 29 January, SOHR activists reported that two tents were burnt down due to a malfunction in a wood-burner stove in Kafr Rouhin camp in northern Idlib, which caused material damage only. While three displaced people were injured due to a malfunction in a coal-burner stove in Kafr Sanfara camp in Al-Bardaqli village in northern Idlib.

 

Similarly, on January 17, SOHR sources documented fires in five camps in Tel Dabas camp in Kafra village near Azaz in northern Aleppo, caused by misusing stoves, which caused material damage only. On the other hand, SOHR activists documented the death of two little girls, while their mother sustained serious injuries, after a fire broke out in their tent in Al-Abraz camp in Ma’batly district in northern Aleppo, due to a malfunction in their stove.

 

While on January 14, a woman sustained light injuries in a fire caused by a malfunction in the stove in her house in Al-Salatah camp in Al-Hamboushiyah village in western Idlib.

 

On January 12, a fire devoured four tents in Al-Sarman camp in Kafatayn village in northern Idlib due to a malfunction in a stove. The fire caused considerable material damage. Three other tents were burnt down in Al-Jabal camp in Kherbet Al-Jouz in western Idlib, where only material damage was reported.

 

While on January 9, a fire broke out in a house of displaced people in Al-Tanmiyah camp in Atma area in northern Idlib due to a malfunction in the stove, which caused material damage only.

 

A day earlier, a woman was injured due to a fire caused by a malfunction in the stove in Salma camp in Kherbet Al-Jouz in western Idlib, which burnt down her tent.
