Searching for ISIS cells | Security forces and SDF continue large-scale combing campaign in Al-Hasakah countryside

Al-Hasakah province: SOHR sources have reported that a large group of Syria Democratic Forces and other security forces have conducted large-scale combing operations for three days in Jabal Abd Al-Aziz in the south of Tel Tamr in the south-western countryside of Al-Hasakah. The security forces have arrested nearly 170 people suspected to “belong to ISIS”, where they released them a short time later, after investigation and checking criminal records.

This campaign comes as a part of security measures following the attack on Al-Sina’a prison in Ghuwayran neighbourhood in Al-Hasakah city.

Meanwhile, security forces have been put on security alert in all towns and cities of Al-Hasakah province.

Moreover, the residents of Al-Haakah city guard their neighbourhoods at night, fearing possible movements by ISIS cells.

Yesterday, SOHR activists reported that dozens of ISIS fighters managed to escape from Ghuwayran prison during the first hours of ISIS attack on the prison on January 20, where some of them became 100 kilometers away from the prison, taking advantage of the surprise attack.

On the same context, investigations continued since the first day of the attack, regarding the security breach and the assault on the prison with the aim to disclose collaborators with ISIS. The investigations coincided with ongoing combing and searching operations in the buildings of “Ghuwayran / Al-Sina’a” prison and its surroundings in Al-Hasakah by the military forces.
