Ongoing security chaos in Daraa | Civilian killed and other almost assassinated raising numbers of assassinations to six

 

Daraa province: SOHR activists have documented six assassinations and murder attempts in Daraa province today, where unidentified gunmen shot a civilian dead in Al-Yadouda town in Daraa countryside.

The victim was a civilian from Homs and lived in Al-Yadouda town in Daraa countryside and was commander to a group among opposition factions.

On the same context, unidentified gunmen opened fire on a member of the Reform Commission in Horan and works in Al-Awqaf Directorate in Daraa, while he was in Sahm Al-Julan in the western countryside in Daraa, however he wasn’t injured.

Earlier today, SOHR sources reported that an IED exploded in the car of the leader of a group working for the regime military security service near Al-Kherba checkpoint in Daraa city. The leader sustained severe injuries and lost his feat, but he died of his wounds after arriving at the national hospital in Daraa city.

On the other hand, an IED explosion targeted a regime patrol in the area between Sayda and Al-Na’imah in eastern Daraa, which left several regime soldiers injured. Also, an IED exploded in Sajnah neighbourhood in Daraa city, but no casualties were reported.

Moreover, unknown gunmen shot dead a civilian in Nawa city in the western countryside of Daraa. According to the victim’s family, he returned from the United Arab Emirates a short time ago, and he did not joined any military bodies.

Accordingly, the number of attacks in Daraa province since early January has risen to 43, which left 30 people: 18 civilians, nine regime-backed combatants, two individuals with settled-status dead and ex-ISIS member.

Since the beginning of the security chaos in Daraa in early June 2019, Syrian Observatory activists have documented more than 1,335 attacks and assassination attempts by gunfire and detonations of IEDs, motorcycle-bombs and car-bombs. These attacks and assassinations claimed the lives of 974 persons, categorised as follows:

• Four local gunmen of anti-reconciliation groups.

• 321 civilians, including 18 women and 26 children

• 418 regime soldiers, loyalists and collaborators with regime security services.

• 163 fighters of factions that struck “reconciliation and settlements” deals with the regime and became in the ranks of regime’s security branches, including former commanders.

• 31 Syrian militiamen affiliated to the Lebanese Hezbollah and Iranian forces.

• 37 members of the so-called 5th Corps which was established by Russia.
