“Criticised corruption in regime institutions” | Civilian from Tartus disappears, while residents blame regime security service

Tartus province: SOHR sources have reported that communication with a civilian known by his initials as Y. S. from Tartus was lost following his post on social media, in which he criticised corruption in regime institutions.

Meanwhile, residents have accused of the regime intelligence of “arresting the civilian” over shedding light on incidents of corruption in Tartus province, as well as corruption of officials working for regime authorities and other social cases in the region. The civilian published his post following the decisions issued by the regime government over lifting governmental subsidy to hundreds of thousands of Syrian families.

Before his disappearance, Y. S. had confirmed that he received threats by unknown bodies.

Here are highlights of the most important demands in the civilian’s post:

  • Dissolution of the People’s Council and holding fair election.

  • Activation of measures of surveillance and replacement of all current officials responsible for this directorate.

  • The directorate of surveillance be affiliated to the legislative assembly instead of the executive authorities.

  • Freedom of press.

  • Cancellation of all laws oppressing freedom of public expression, including laws by the cyber-crime branch, which stifle voices.

  • Holding everyone embezzling public funds accountable.

  • Impose strict sanctions on every official exploiting their positions for private interests.

  • Raising of salaries to meet the global average rate, 1,000 USD each employee.

  • Put an end to monopolization of exporting and importing goods and reduce of costume fee.

  • Cancellation of taxes imposed on cars, fuel, roads, etc.

It is worth noting that the civilian’s whereabouts remained unknown, while there are no reports so far about the reasons behind his disappearance.
