Rising health risks | Al-Raqqa residents complain water contamination in diesel

As Al-Asadiyah residents have been suffering from water pollution in the northern Al-Raqqa countryside, Syrian Observatory sources have reported that the village’s drinking water has been inlaid and contaminated with diesel.

Nearly a week ago, the people had lodged several complaints of water pollution with Al-Raqq’s Civil Council.

Residents of Al-Asadiyah village have said that they will have to buy drinking water from water-tankers as drinking water contaminated with diesel, while the Civil Council promised to exert efforts to address and resolve the problem.

It is worth noting that residents in the northern countryside of Al-Raqqa rely on water channels of the irrigation canal as a primary source of water. However, people cannot drink the water as it is contaminated with diesel because of agricultural engines on the outskirts of the irrigation canal that causes the leakage of petroleum materials, such as “motor oil and diesel,” causing water contamination.
